School: In my academic work, I have learned time management skills, honed by working towards multiple objectives at once.  The task of working on several different courses, dividing time and effort between multiple assignments, has taught me to be organized and how to keep track of more than one situation at once.  I also learned many of my current computer skills in school, including how to conduct research, use word processor software, and how to create and edit spreadsheets.

Work: When working at Mission City Motors, I acquired relationship-building and communications skills, which were developed by working with a team, speaking with suppliers, and assisting customers on a daily basis.  I often had to find and order parts, be capable of pricing repairs, and engage in customer service.  This job also taught me valuable phone skills and improved my interpersonal skills.

Volunteer: I have further developed interpersonal skills by engaging with charity organizations, working with other volunteers, and interacting with the public.  I have volunteered collecting donations at the Santa Train, putting together hampers at the Christmas Bureau, and volunteering for the Christmas draw at the Mission Friendship Centre.

Community: I have been enrolled in Scouts Canada as both a participant and a leader.  I learned implementation skills developed by planning trips and organizing equipment, initially as a Patrol Leader.  When I became a Scout Leader, I also took on the responsibility of setting up meetings, and scheduling the time and personnel to train new members.  I have trained members in new skills myself, as well.

Home: Being an older sibling, I learned problem-solving and continuous improvement skills from being in the adaptive situation of being responsible and caring for others’ wellbeing.
